What sales order automation actually means

Sales order automation is the practice of converting an inbound customer purchase order, however it arrives, into a sales order in your ERP without a person re-typing it. For most manufacturers and distributors, those orders show up as PDF attachments, scanned documents, or plain text in an email. Today a CSR opens each one, reads it, finds the customer and items in the ERP, and keys in every line.

OrderPier removes that step. It reads the document, extracts every field and line item, validates them against your customer list, item master, and pricing, and creates the sales order, flagging anything uncertain for a quick human check instead of guessing.

Why legacy tools made this hard, and why that changed

The first generation of order automation relied on templates: someone mapped each customer's PO layout once, and the system broke whenever a format changed or a new customer appeared. That meant long onboarding, constant maintenance, and a tool that only paid off for your highest-volume trading partners.

OrderPier uses large language models that read a purchase order the way a person does, so a layout the system has never seen works on the first try. That single change is what makes self-serve, mid-market sales order automation possible.

What you get

  • Extraction from any PO format: digital PDFs, scans, images, and email bodies.
  • Per-field confidence scoring, so confident orders post automatically and the rest go to a review queue.
  • Line-item matching to your catalog with price and availability validation.
  • Native sales-order creation in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central today, with Epicor Prophet 21, Epicor Kinetic, and Acumatica in early access.
  • QuickBooks Enterprise gets a ready-to-import IIF file, and everything else gets a JSON webhook. Current status for every ERP is published on the integrations page.
  • A complete audit trail of every extraction, edit, and post.

What ops leaders ask

How is this different from EDI?
EDI standardizes orders from your largest trading partners but requires each customer to be onboarded. The long tail of customers who email PDFs can't be EDI'd cost-effectively, that's exactly the volume OrderPier automates, with no onboarding on the customer's side.
Will it post wrong orders into my ERP?
No. Every field is scored for confidence. You decide the auto-post threshold. Anything below it waits in an exception queue for a one-click human review. Touchless rate climbs as confidence in the system grows.
How fast can we go live?
Most teams process their first touchless order the same day they connect a mailbox and ERP.
