Intelligent document processing (IDP)
Technology that extracts structured data from unstructured documents using AI — OCR, machine learning, and increasingly large language models.
Intelligent document processing (IDP) refers to systems that turn documents — invoices, purchase orders, forms — into structured data. Earlier IDP relied on OCR plus templates or trained models for each document type.
LLM-based IDP reads documents zero-shot, handling layouts it has never seen at higher accuracy than template OCR. Order automation is a vertical application of IDP focused specifically on purchase orders and ERP order creation.
